(TORONTO, ON) September 16, 2020 - This year, Cadillac Fairview is marking the 50th Anniversary of CF Fairview Mall, Canada’s first two-storey shopping centre. Since opening its doors in 1970, the property has been a natural hub for community members to gather and share experiences, including shoppers, commuters and partners alike.
To honour this golden anniversary, Cadillac Fairview is reinforcing its commitment to building vibrant communities by empowering each of its CF Fairview Mall employees to give back to the local community it proudly serves. Now more than ever, community support is vital and Cadillac Fairview is pleased to donate $200 on behalf of each CF Fairview Mall employee to a local charity of the property team’s choice. The property team at CF Fairview Mall is thrilled to donate $10,000 to support North York General Hospital, one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals.
“CF Fairview Mall was the first shopping centre in the GTA built by Cadillac Fairview, establishing our early presence in Canada’s largest and most competitive market. For five decades, we have had the privilege to serve and be a part of the Toronto community and witness the development of the city and neighbourhoods surrounding our shopping centre,” said John Massey, Vice President Operations, Cadillac Fairview. “As the city has grown so has our offering and we look forward to continuing to support our community and building new experiences for many more years to come.”
“CF Fairview Mall is a go-to destination for nearby residents and families to shop, eat, watch movies and more. We have a strong sense of community and togetherness, despite being in a large metropolitan city, which creates a welcoming environment for all our guests,” said Daryl Clemance, General Manager, CF Fairview Mall. “Many of the residents in the area have been coming to our centre for several years, some as long as we’ve been open, and for that we’re extremely thankful.”
CF Fairview Mall Over the Years
Over the past 50 years, CF Fairview Mall has undergone significant developments to enhance the interior and exterior space. From adding a massive skylight in the late 80s to helping develop the parking lot to lead into Don Mills Station in the late 90s and early 2000s, a $90-million retail expansion in the mid 2000s to installing an expanded 700-seat food court from 2006-2008, the property has continued to transform to meet the needs of local area residents. Currently, the shopping centre is undergoing an $80-million renovation to transform 230,000 square feet of an existing department store and other retail space introducing exciting brands to the property, creating a new row of restaurants and improved pedestrian access to the property and the nearby Don Mills subway station. The redevelopment is set to be completed in 2023.
Community Information Fairview, a neighbourhood information centre has been part of CF Fairview Mall for the past 49 years. This volunteer board of community residents has been assisting the local community with legal counselling, advice on taxes, employment, housing, immigration and more led by Executive Director Susan Knish who has been on board since 1971.
CF Fairview Mall is located at the intersection of Highway 401 and the DVP, conveniently accessible by TTC and features more than 160 retail stores, services and restaurants.
