July 11, 2022 – As part of its ongoing commitment to enabling occupant well-being, Cadillac Fairview (CF) is proud to share that 13 buildings in Western Canada and one in Montreal have achieved the WELL Health-Safety rating, the highest industry standard for facility operations through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). CF earned the ratings earlier this year, adding to the previously announced WELL designations in Toronto and are being unveiled concurrently with the publication of CF’s 2022 Corporate Responsibility Report. The 14 new ratings include eight CF office towers in CF Pacific Centre, three office towers at Waterfront Centre, Calgary City Centre, Shell Centre, and Deloitte Tower.  These achievements are in addition to 15 previous building ratings for a total of 29 WELL Health-Safety Ratings across CF’s Canadian office portfolio.

“At Cadillac Fairview, we continue to prioritize how we build, manage and operate our buildings responsibly with established benchmarks that foster a healthy workplace environment,” said Sal Iacono, Executive Vice President, Operations, Cadillac Fairview. “We cannot underscore the importance of workplace wellness for our employees and clients. Through our corporate responsibility commitments and our award-winning Green at Work® program, we have long been dedicated to supporting our office communities, and these ratings are a testament to our wellness pledge.”

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all new and existing building and space types focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and into the future. Designed to empower owners and operators across large and small businesses alike to take the necessary steps in order to prioritize the health and safety of their staff, visitors and stakeholders, the WELL Health-Safety Rating can help guide users in preparing their spaces for re-entry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, instilling confidence in those who come through the building as well as the broader community.

CF successfully implemented a comprehensive range of features and initiatives at participating buildings to achieve the WELL Health-Safety Rating, including:

  • Enhanced sanitation practices and procedures, which exceed industry standards and use only cleaning products proven to be safe and effective.

  • Strategies to reduce surface contact such as touchless Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) disposal bins and other hands-free technologies and implementing a disposable mask recycling program to divert waste and support CF’s sustainability goals.

  • Emergency protocols to aid in response and recovery.

  • Distribution of PPE kits including masks and hygiene keys to all CF employees

  • Stakeholder engagement and communication, maintaining strong channels of communication with building occupants throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and through informative guides, a new public service announcement safety campaign and timely resources to support occupants.

CF remains committed to implementing best practices and achieving industry certifications to provide transparency and accountability. In addition to the newest WELL ratings, CF was recently ranked #1 in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark amongst our peers and achieved an A+ rating from the UN Principles For Responsible Investment for many years running. Several CF properties have also attained LEED, BOMA BEST® and Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility certifications furthering the company’s responsibility efforts.

“In 2009, we committed to achieving industry leading certifications across our portfolio such as LEED and BOMA BEST - a benchmark that we can proudly say we’ve achieved resulting in our fully Green certified portfolio,” said Karen Jalon, Vice President, Sustainability, Energy & Smart Technology, Cadillac Fairview. “We continue to be accountable and invest in our operations and through these continued commitments, including our new progressive certifications like WELL, we not only hold ourselves to a high standard but as an example to our industry and peers to act responsibility.”

Progress & Optimism: 2022 Corporate Responsibility

To coincide with these commitments across its portfolios, CF has released its latest Corporate Responsibility Report, this will open in a new tab guided by the company’s increased focus on creating meaningful human connection, combating climate change and fostering strategic partnerships and growth.
