Building a new residential era at Cadillac Fairview through collaboration

Chez Cadillac Fairview, l’équipe de développement joue un rôle essentiel dans cette mission, car elle gère l’intégralité du cycle de vie de chaque projet, de la conception à l’achèvement.

As supply issues continue to affect the housing market across Canada, the country needs new stewards of residential spaces to build and manage best-in-class properties that support thriving communities.

At Cadillac Fairview, the Development team plays a crucial role in this mission, managing the entire lifecycle of each project from conception to completion. One standout example is the Rideau Registry project in Ottawa, where Anne-Christine Voicu serves as the Director of Project Management. As the lead project manager, Anne-Christine is integral to supporting the team in the construction delivery of this and other pioneering developments, including the 750 Peel project in Montreal, both scheduled for completion in 2026.

“These projects align perfectly with our long-term vision of bringing new homes to communities across Canada,” she said. “It marks a shift in our company’s approach, supporting our purpose of creating a ‘vibrant tomorrow.’ It’s not just a one-off development; it’s the start of a new chapter.”

The Rideau Registry will add 288 rental units to Ottawa’s housing market, integrating seamlessly with CF Rideau Centre. A short walk from Parliament Hill, this redevelopment includes a modern café-bistro and enhanced public spaces, including a new atrium and entrance to the shopping centre. Once open, it will also be connected to the O-Train station in the heart of downtown Ottawa across from hotels and art galleries, making it uniquely positioned to foster a greater sense of connection to retail, restaurants and other amenities for its future occupants.

“With this project and others under development across Canada, we can better connect people to our properties and elevate residents' quality of life,” said Anne-Christine.

Key to the success of the Rideau Registry project, is the CF value of collaborating effectively. The property team at the adjacent CF Rideau Centre have been paramount for the project’s continued success since its launch in September 2022, according to Anne-Christine.

Anne-Christine shared that she has learned immensely from her colleagues at CF. “I’ve learned how to manage projects, oversee construction managers, and ask the right questions to gather meaningful responses.”

“CF has a deep level of real-estate expertise, which became even clearer and more valuable when construction began,” she said. “We are leveraging our internal expertise and reaching out on a continuous basis to our vertical transportation, fire alarm and security teams among others to get everyone's perspective and mitigate issues together, to ensure the success of this project.”

The Rideau Registry will consist of two towers—20 and 21 stories—designed to promote the prominence of Ottawa’s historic City Registry Office and create a vibrant urban edge.  In order to fulfill the vision, project teams worked with subject-matter experts in numerous fields in order to complete one of the most challenging elements of the entire project: moving the 500-tonne, 149-year-old building, this will open in a new tab to a new and permanent location. Thanks to the extensive collaboration and hard work, the move was a success and project teams continue to safeguard the historic building’s structure during the rest of the project’s construction.

Projects such as the City Registry Office move have proven to be a fulfilling part of the project management role for Anne-Christine, who feels privileged to play a part in not only preserving the past, but also building for the future.

“Some of the most fulfilling elements of working at CF are the ability to be part of the transformation of cities and communities,” she said. “I love that everyone at CF is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about their areas of expertise, empowering employees to contribute in their roles.”

When asked what she loves most about working for CF, Anne- Christine shared that the most gratifying element of her role is helping create spaces where future generations can make their own memories. “It’s the spark that keeps me motivated every day.”
